Owen LOVES Ninjago and so he was more than thrilled when we gave him this Brickmaster Ninjago book. He was very excited to build the Lego creations AND to read the stories in the book.

Owen is in grade 4 and he is an excellent reader and we actually have trouble keeping enough interesting age-appropriate reading material in the house for him. Apparently I am not super good at choosing books for a 9 year old boy... who knew? He tends to think the books I choose are ... um... lame.

But Ninjago? That was a sure-fire hit. He even read a couple of the stories out-loud to his sister which is not something he would normally choose to do.

This book is geared to ages 6+ and Owen just turned 9 so he had absolutely no trouble following the instructions on his own. He didn't need our help at all and he was able to read through the whole book without issues.

MY REVIEW

I really enjoyed Cosmic. Even though Cosmic is geared to kids I thought it was humourous and entertaining. I think most 8-12 year old kids would love it. I am certainly going to keep it around for my boys to read. Cosmic is well written and very readable.  It would make an excellent gift for the young reader in your life... it could probably even get a reluctant reader interested!

This week the wonderful delivery guy dropped off 10 more books for me to review and as I was trying to put the books on my "to be reviewed" shelf I noticed that my book shelf is full.

Ridiculously full.

MY REVIEW

We love this book! Amazing Cows is hilarious. I have been a fan of Sandra Boynton's books for years- I think we got our first one when Aiden was just a baby. This book is just plain fun. It is clever and entertaining, with bright and colourful illustrations. My sons both love Amazing Cows. Owen was thrilled to find some cow jokes to tell everyone. Both Aiden and Owen were able to read the book on their own with very little parental intervention. Olivia loved the illustrations and enjoyed listening to the stories.

Amazing Cows would make a great gift for any kid this Christmas!

MY REVIEW

I have loved all of Michelle's books but for some reason this one just really struck a cord with me... maybe it is because I share a name with the main character Tara, my son has the middle name Josiah and there is even an Autistic boy in the story named Aiden (just like my son!).

But honestly it was more than that. I thought the story seemed very natural and flowed so well. The characters were real and dealt with temptation and sin and God without any sugarcoating. Michelle always writes with vivid truth and I love that about her books. I am rather tired of the typical Christian romance where no one does anything wrong and everyone lives happily ever after and you know the ending right from the start... it gets old after awhile. First Love kept my attention right from the start and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters.

First Love is the second book in a series but it could easily be read as a stand-alone novel. If you like a good romance than you will enjoy this fabulous book!

MY REVIEW

I am honestly not sure what to say about 32 Candles... I found it interesting and it kept my attention but I didn't love reading it. The characters are certainly intriguing and I think the book was well written but there was just something about it that kept me from really enjoying it.
